Understanding The Insurance Process

Insurance Claims

(719) 948-2403

Due to the severity of weather in Colorado, thousands of roofs are replaced every year due to hail and wind damage and there’s a good chance your property will be hit or has been damaged by one of these storms. Roof replacements are typically covered by most homeowners’ insurance policies but there are a few things you need to know.

A quality roofing company will know the insurance claims process and be able to advise you through this. You want a roofing contractor able to explain your insurance claim and the process in plain English.

Working with a Valley Exteriors representative, will help you to better understand this process and give you peace of mind moving forward with your repairs.

For many of our customers, a hail/wind storm claim is the first claim they have ever filed on their homeowner’s insurance policy. Having a good understanding of this process, allows homeowners to maximize the return on their insurance investments.

If you have recently filed a claim with your insurance company, received an insurance settlement, or would just like to know whether it makes sense to pursue an insurance claim, Valley Exteriors and our team of claims specialists can help.

Call us today, and a representative who is well-versed in the insurance claims process will contact you and set an appointment to assist you.

Five Steps in the Insurance Claim Process

1. Get a Roof Inspection From a Reputable, Local Roofing Company.
Many homeowners call their insurance company first not knowing if their roof has any storm damage. If there is no damage, you may have this “new claim” count against you and on your insurance record. Start with a free, no-obligation roof inspection which will start you in the right direction and give you the facts that you need.

2. If There Is Damage, Make a Claim With Your Insurance Company.
With your inspection completed, you can file your claim on your homeowner’s policy with confidence.
Your insurance company will likely ask you if your roof has already been inspected and if you have selected a contractor. Keep in mind, you can work with any roofing company you wish. It is entirely your choice.

3. Schedule Your Roof Replacement With Your Selected Roofing Company.
At this point in the process, our customers are assigned a Project Manager who is the homeowner’s point of contact for the duration of the project. From start to finish.
Typical roof replacements take 1-2 days to complete. You are not required to be home when the work is being done and can rest assured that someone is managing your project for you.

4. Payment for your new roof.
In most cases, your insurance company will leave you your first check to begin your project.
This check is only part of the settlement. Your insurance company will then release the balance, (depreciation) of the funds, once your job is completed. Keep in mind that a reputable company will not require money up front to do your roof.

5. Lien waivers and other paperwork.
It is not unusual to have your mortgage company require you to have your contractor sign a lien waiver for materials and labor before releasing your last check. Your Project Manager will help you through this and complete the transaction to everyone’s approval.
